What Is Gravity? STEAM Learning About Space for Kids

What is gravity? Gravity is an invisible force that pulls objects toward the centre of a planet or star.

What Is Gravity? Understanding Space Through STEAM Learning

What is gravity? Gravity is an invisible force that pulls objects toward the centre of a planet or star. Every planet has its own gravitational pull, which depends on its size, mass, and distance from other objects in space. Gravity is what keeps us grounded on Earth and what causes objects to fall rather than float away.

In this engaging STEAM lesson, our students journey into space and “land” on the moon. While exploring the lunar surface, their teacher explains how gravity works and why it feels different on the moon compared to Earth. This hands-on, imaginative approach helps children understand complex scientific concepts in a simple and exciting way.

Why Space Is Perfect for STEAM Education

Learning about space brings together all five areas of STEAM education — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Space exploration encourages children to ask questions, think critically, solve problems, and explore new possibilities.

The global space industry continues to grow rapidly, including New Zealand’s own aerospace success story, Rocket Lab. Introducing children to space science and gravity helps spark interest in future-focused careers in engineering, space technology, and innovation.

At Pacific Learners, we are passionate about inspiring young minds through STEAM learning for children. Our dedicated STEAM Resource Page brings together all of our space and science content in one place, making it easy for families and schools to explore.
