Rotuman Language Week for 2026: Sunday 10th May - Saturday 16th May
At Pacific Learners, we are proud to support the revitalisation of the Rotuman Language through our dedicated Rotuman Language Resource Page.
The Rotuman language, known as Fäeag Rotųam, is one of the most unique and beautiful languages in the Pacific. Rotuma is a small volcanic island located approximately 500 kilometres northwest of Fiji’s capital Suva, and is home to a proud and vibrant community with a rich cultural heritage.
Rotuman is one of five UNESCO-listed endangered languages celebrated during New Zealand’s official Pacific Language Week series, making every effort to learn and preserve it deeply meaningful. Around 1,000 Rotumans live in New Zealand, with approximately half born here, making Aotearoa an important home for this language and culture. Rotuman Language Week 2026 is celebrated from Sunday 10 May to Saturday 16 May, with the theme “Treasure, nurture and teach our Rotuman language and culture so it may live on through generations.” At Pacific Learners, we are proud to support Rotuman Language Week and the wider Rotuman community by providing free Rotuman language resources, words, and phrases to help tamariki, families, and schools connect with this precious language every day, not just during Language Week
