The Lord’s Prayer in Tokelauan

In this video, we have translated one of the most well known scriptures in the Bible, the ‘Lord,s Prayer’ from English to Tokelauan.

The Lord’s Prayer in Tokelauan: Strengthening Faith and Cultural Identity

At Pacific Learners Education, we are committed to creating Pacific language content that strengthens our children’s identity, belonging, and faith. Sharing cultural phrases, songs, stories, and scriptures in our heritage languages helps connect the next generation to both their spiritual foundation and their Pacific roots.

Developing a strong foundation in faith plays an important role in building character, resilience, and confidence. Throughout life, our children will face challenges and uncertain seasons. Having access to scripture in their own language allows them to lean on their faith for guidance, comfort, and strength.

In this video, we present the Lord’s Prayer translated from English to Tokelauan, helping families, churches, schools, and communities practise this well-known Christian prayer in the Tokelau language. Learning scripture in Tokelauan not only supports spiritual growth but also contributes to Pacific language revitalisation.

The Lord’s Prayer in Tokelauan

Our Father who art in heaven
To mātou Tamana i te lagi

Hallowed be Thy Name
Ke tapu tō igoa

Thy Kingdom come
Ke pa mai tō Mālō

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Ke faia tō loto i te lalolagi, e vē ona faia i te lagi

Give us this day our daily bread
Fōki mai i te aho nei nā meakai ke ola ai ki mātou

And forgive us our trespasses
Fakamagalo o mātou hehē

As we forgive those who trespass against us
E vē ona fakamagalo eki mātou ia hehē o ie tahi tino kia teki mātou

And lead us not into temptation
Nahe takitakia ki mātou kina fakaohoohoga

But deliver us from evil
Kae laveaki ki mātou mai te kino

For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory
Auā e ō koe te mālō, mate mana, mate vikiga

Forever and ever
E fakavavau fakavavau lava

Amen
Amene
