Supporting Pacific Children Coping with Stress and Anxiety (Part 3)
By spending time with children, listening to their concerns and putting there needs over our own, we begin to understand what the issues are, then work with them to overcome their stress and anxiety.
Helping Pacific Children Cope with Stress and Anxiety
In the first two videos of our series, we explored the impact that stress and anxiety in children can have on learning, confidence, and emotional wellbeing. We also highlighted the early warning signs families and teachers should look out for. While children are naturally resilient, ongoing stress can negatively affect their academic performance, self-esteem, and sense of identity if left unaddressed.
Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of Pacific children is a shared responsibility. Our communities — including families, friends, church leaders, and educators — all play a role in creating a safe and supportive environment where children can thrive and reach their full potential.
At Pacific Learners, we believe a positive and stable home environment is reflected in a child’s confidence and personality. In this video, Talia demonstrates renewed confidence as she proudly sings Le ‘Aute in front of her class, receiving warm encouragement and applause. Her story reminds us that when children feel supported, they flourish.
By spending quality time with children, actively listening to their concerns, and prioritising their emotional needs, parents and caregivers can better understand the root causes of stress and anxiety. From there, families can work together to build coping strategies and restore confidence.
