Our mission is to Revitalise Pacific Language
Pacific Learners’ mission is to revitalise and strengthen Pacific languages by making high-quality, accessible digital learning resources available to families, schools, and communities across Aotearoa New Zealand. We aim to support the next generation in building cultural identity, confidence, and connection through engaging language education that honours the richness and diversity of Pacific cultures.
Pacific Learners in the media
We are grateful to be interviewed by the team at 531pi. During the interview, our co-founder Ofa Lewis shared the story behind how Pacific Learners began and spoke about her deep passion for supporting children’s education. It was a great opportunity to discuss the importance of accessible learning resources and the role Pacific languages play in strengthening cultural identity for future generations.
Our Journey at Pacific Learners
Pacific Learners was created during COVID-19 to help children continue learning their Pacific languages online, and has since grown into a leading digital platform supporting Pacific language education across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Pacific Learners was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when families across Aotearoa New Zealand were isolated from classrooms, churches, cultural gatherings, and community spaces. Like many others, we were faced with an important question: how do we ensure our children continue learning and staying connected to their Pacific languages while at home?
Out of that challenge came a simple idea, create engaging online videos that would allow children to learn their Pacific language in a way that was accessible, clear, and culturally grounded. What began as a response to isolation quickly became a growing digital platform supporting families and educators across New Zealand.
As more communities discovered the resources, Pacific Learners expanded beyond a temporary solution. The demand for beginner-friendly, visually engaging Pacific language content revealed something deeper, a strong desire among families and schools to strengthen language learning in everyday life.
Today, Pacific Learners has grown into a leading online resource for Pacific language education in Aotearoa. Our platform provides digital videos and educational materials that support young learners, parents, teachers, and early childhood centres. We are committed to helping Pacific languages thrive by making learning accessible, modern, and relevant for the next generation.
What began during a time of uncertainty has become a long-term mission: to support the revitalisation of Pacific languages and ensure that cultural knowledge, identity, and connection continue to flourish for generations to come.
